Physics Education Research Conference 2026   (click to expand)

July 22-23, 2026 in Pasadena California

Artificial intelligence (AI) has influenced many aspects of modern life for decades, but the public release of tools such as ChatGPT in late 2022 accelerated awareness of how significantly AI may shape the future of education. The Physics Education Research (PER) community is well positioned to engage with both the technical capabilities of AI and the educational questions it raises.

A growing body of PER scholarship reflects increasing interest in this emerging research area and highlights the community’s ability to address complex, interdisciplinary challenges. The 2026 Physics Education Research Conference (PERC) invites participants to share research, experiences, and perspectives exploring AI’s role in PER and in education more broadly.

Career development and networking can be time consuming, so AAPT is offering a fun and exciting way to get connected to a large number of early career and seasoned physics professionals in a short amount of time. Speed networking provides the opportunity to discuss career goals and challenges with a new contact for five minutes, exchange information, and then move on to the next person. By the end of the event, each participant will have meaningful interactions with over half a dozen colleagues and the opportunity to meet many more. If you think you made a good contact, follow up with the person and schedule a time to meet for coffee. It’s that simple! By the end of the first day of the conference, you’ll have already made several personal connections with other attendees. If you have business cards, don’t forget to bring them.

James Lincoln (AAPT Films) portrays Richard Feynman, accent and all, in this one-hour lecture on physics taking place in the same CalTech lecture hall that Richard Feynman delivered his famous lectures in 1962-1963. Richard Feynman (1918-1988) is often regarded as the greatest teacher of physics and brought hijinks and eccentricities along with his science instruction. In this lecture, Lincoln celebrates the mannerisms, energy, charisma, and gusto of the Nobel Prize winning professor as he might have been when he stood in the same place all those years ago.
